Maison Margiela and Celine launch interactive pop-ups in China amidst Kering challenges
Recently, the world of fashion has been enriched by interesting initiatives from luxury brands such as Maison Margiela and Celine. Both brands launched interactive pop-ups in China aimed at strengthening relationships with consumers. This is an important step in a global context, especially in light of the challenges faced by the Kering group.
Maison Margiela Interactive Pop-ups
Maison Margiela, as part of its "MaisonMargiela/folders" initiative, inaugurated a unique event, "Bianchetto: Atelier Experience," in Shenzhen. Organized at the Hairun badminton courts, the event invited guests to immerse themselves in the brand's world, where they had the opportunity to modify their clothes using Margiela's characteristic white paint. Participants received the iconic blouse blanche (white smock), and a team from Paris oversaw their work.
Celine Transforms Shanghai
Celine, in turn, opened its interactive pop-ups in Shanghai's historic Zhangyuan district. This place, which transports guests into the atmosphere of a French seaside escape, was designed based on a series of photographs by Takashi Homma. The outdoor space featured sand dunes and cabins serving as an ice cream parlor and a surf shop. Inside, guests can discover the seasonal collection and a customization room where leather tags on jeans and bags can be personalized.
Kering's Challenges and the Future of the Luxury Industry
The Kering group, which includes brands such as Gucci and Saint Laurent, is facing financial challenges. In the first quarter of this year, revenues fell by 6.2%. The main reason for this situation is the poor sales performance of Gucci, where revenues dropped by 14.3%. Despite the difficulties, Kering plans to introduce innovations, including a collaboration with Google to create smart glasses, which are set to debut in 2027.
