What do DS, VNDS and OG mean in the sneaker world? A dictionary for beginners
If you’re new to the sneaker world, it might feel like you’re speaking a different language – DS, VNDS, OG, WTS, BOGO… What does it all mean? Don’t worry – everyone was a beginner at some point. In this article, we explain the most important abbreviations and terms you need to know to avoid getting caught off guard in groups, forums, StockX or the world of streetwear transactions.
DS – Deadstock
What does it mean?
"Deadstock" (in short: DS ) are brand new sneakers , never worn, in original packaging and with a complete set of accessories (e.g. extra laces, tags, paper inside).
DS = perfect condition
– Such shoes can be immediately put up for sale as a "complete new set".
In practice, if someone is selling Jordan 1 DS, it means the shoes are fresh off the shelf – no trying on, no going outside.
VNDS – Very Near Deadstock
What does it mean?
VNDS = Almost New . The shoes have been worn once , maybe tried on or used very briefly, but are still in great condition.
VNDS is:
– minimal signs of use
- most often clean sole
- may still have the box and accessories
Sometimes people sell VNDS after one quick trip to the store – and this is a great opportunity to buy the model cheaper than the DS.
OG – Original/Original Everything
What does it mean?
OG means everything is original – original box, original laces, tags, paper, insoles, etc.
OG may also refer to colors :
“OG Colorway” is the original colorway of a model (e.g. Jordan 1 “Chicago” is OG).
DS + OG = gold standard on the market – perfect for collection or as an investment.
