Birth of PWBC: Palace Wayward Boys Choir
The term Palace Wayward Boys Choir (PWBC) originated as a joke nickname for a close-knit group of friends who shared a house in south London. Although called a "palace", the venue was far from luxurious, providing a modest haven for its occupants.
Lev Tanju - creator of the brand
PWBC included Lev Tanju, who would later have a significant impact on street style. Tanju documented his skateboarding exploits with a VHS camera, creating atmospheric videos. The choice of VHS was not accidental or dictated by a lack of resources – Tanju fell in love with the 90s skate vibe.

Tanju emphasized that Palace Skateboards is primarily a skateboard brand. Initially, it was about a board and four wheels, and clothing came later. The idea for the brand came spontaneously when Tanju and his crew were quickly destroying their clothes while riding. After graduating from college, Tanju found himself with a lot of free time, which he began filling by creating graphics, initially for friends. Soon after, his business gained momentum, prompting him to start his own company.

When starting his own brand, Tanju wanted his logo to be exceptionally large – it would take up almost the entire surface of the back. Today, this logo is recognized all over the world and is worn by stars such as Jay-Z, Beyonce and Rihanna.

The brand was meant to act like a record label, supporting PWBC on their skate trips and competitions.
